hello, i have a problem: I have a Mac Mini Late 2014 and I add a PCIe ssd ( Trascend 820 ) with the flex cable, but when I turn on the mac and go to About this mac -> Storage the ssd does not appear. how can I do to install MacOS on the ssd if my mac does not recognise the drive? any thoughts about what could be the problem? Thank you!
JetFlash is preformatted with MBR. So use Disk Utility to erase and format the device with GPT (GUID Partition Table). Carbon Copy Cloner works great for cloning. Also fixes the recovery partition. Or can clone for free with unix tools. BlackMagic Disk Speed Test says write up to 620MB/sec; write about 720MB/sec.
Your Mac Mini only supports a PCIe 2.0 x2 SSD’s I haven’t put the Transcend into a Mac Mini. While Transcend does state it will work I would contact them to make sure. I would check the cable connection making sure it’s not damaged. Here’s a useful reference: The Ultimate Guide to Apple’s Proprietary SSDs
Doesn’t he have to initialize the PCIe with Disk Utility?
Transcend website says macOS High Sierra 10.13 is required. My Mac Mini late 2014 running Yosemite 10.10 recognizes the drive as Apple 128 GB SSD and can be formatted at that capacity.
