Chosen Solution

After accidentally dropping my Samsung Galaxy s4 in water, the loud speaker has been making a very annoying and loud crackling sound anytime it is used. After searching for fixes, I have replaced both the loud speaker and charge port. It is still making the noise! Any suggestions on what it could be and how to fix it, or am I just screwed?? Thanks!

Did you find a solution? I have changed the speaker and the problema persist. Now I have bought the charge port, I hope it Works. But if doesn’t work I’m up. I won’t change the mainboard. Update In my case, the phone was accidentally wet with water, and only in the speaker area. However I was using it for a few hours before drying it and may have been damaged Fortunately, the sound with headphones is good, so I hope it “only” be the charge port. Tomorrow I’ll upload a video with the sound because at this moment I don’t have a camera to record.

It may be the problem of motherboard when you have replaced the loudspeaker and charging board.

Ok I received the usb dock port, changed it and the same sssshit happens So, if I want sound in the mobile I must replace the motherboard or could it be another solution???

Exactly the same problem as mine. If you have tried replacing the external speaker (attached to the mid frame) and replaced the charging dock then the fault now is the audio IC in most cases reflowing the chip can fix these issues.

Hello, I believe I am facing the same issue as you saraccox and I have made some progress. My GS4 loud speaker was making this terrible hissing sound when a battery was inserted, it didn’t even need to be powered on. The issue has 99% disappeared, there is only a small pop every now and then when the loud speaker wants to make a sound effect like opening the contact screen, etc. I fixed the issue by opening up the device and cleaning the motherboard with 99.9% isopropyl alcohol. I focused on the audio chip where I saw some corrosion with a magnifying glass, I also cleaned the back housing gold contacts that belong to the loud speaker and the charging ports gold contacts that connect to the loud speaker. Hopefully this reaches you and helps you as well.

Same happened for me. Ony i did not drop my phone in water. I had wet hands and water sipped into the speaker while i was holding it.It went really quiet and made rattling sounds. It worked fine after drying. Using it now to listen to music :D

a drop, literately a single drop managed to get to where the galaxy s5 back contats are (the ones where the flip cover connects) http://www.gokrnet.com/items/VV/V8/KV812… And the drop somehow managed to get from there to the Qualcomm WCD9320 audio codec https://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/ig… I cleaned it up with absolute alcohol and let it dry for 10 minutes, the qualcomm chip is very hot and i have the same issue, static whenever a sound is reproduced. Also, on boot, the output to the speaker is 1.2volts steady. Once i start reproducing anything it starts bouncing (1.2 - 0.3 - 0.1 - negative voltage - 1.2. etccccc) If you have already replaced the charging flex and the speaker the only solution is to replace the audio codec or the motherboard.. oh, also wiped cache partition and didnt worked Update (11/14/2016) Oh, also wiped cache partition and didnt worked

Seeing as you’ve replaced the speaker and the I/O board I would have to say that it sounds like the audio codec needs reflowed on the board. You’d need flux and a heat gun to fix that, and no a hair drier isn’t going to cut it.
