My laptop won’t boot up at all. I went to get something to eat and when I came back, it was off. It was plugged to the wall with its corresponding charger, so there’s no way that It got drained. It doesn’t show the BIOS menu or options. I opened it up and changed the RAM sticks and tried them on another laptop. They work. I also started my laptop with no RAM sticks and I can hear it Beep. So that probably discards the motherboard. The charger works perfectly. The power on lights, light up. The DVD Drive seems to get power and even tries to read a disc when I close the tray. The fans spin. The keyboard backlight lights up. I’ve tried taking the CMOS Battery out and holding the power button for more than a minute or two. I can hear the hard drive turning on and spinning, but then it stops. I tried to use a external monitor/TV with an HDMI cable. Yet nothing shows I’ve tried every possible button combination I even tried turning it on with no battery. I used a flashlight to see if it was the screen backlight, nothing shows. The laptop has two GPUs. Intel graphics card and an Nvidia graphics card. Both of them integrated. I would of thought that if one fails the other one should back it up. I may be wrong. But I think it might be the GPU (I never dropped it, never got wet, or any other kind of damage)

What model laptop is it? Try an external monitor to rule out the gpu’s. Nvidia, in the past, has had huge problems with gpu’s going out on laptops. Try removing the battery and unplugging the laptop then pressing the power button to drain any excess power. Plug just the laptop up and try turning it on. It looks like you have done a good deal of troubleshooting. Let me know if any of this helps.

The problem sounds like the motherboard is defective. If the laptop is in warranty or has extended warranty then you should call Dell tech support. If it is out of warranty then you can look for a replacement motherboard, replacing the motherboard is tricky unless you have the take apart.

I had the same problem last week. I tried everything except a new power supply. Just because the computer turns on does not mean there is nothing wrong with the power supply. Bought a new power supply off Ebay and had it delivered within a few days. Only cost me $8.50 including free Fedex shipping.

If the motherboard beeps you could look up the beep sequence on the web and that might help. If it’s a new laptop, I would disconnect the lid (display) and re-attach it. Might be simply a loose connection. Good Luck Brother
