Chosen Solution

My Acer Aspire V5 laptop freezes everytime it reaches the shutdown screen. The only way it can be powered down is by holding down the power button. The same error occurs if the laptop is inactive for a while. How can I resolve this issue?

I think the issue was bad sectors in the hard drive. Used the laptop recovery process and the problem seems to have gone away. Thank you for your answer!

My Acer Aspire V5 began freezing some months ago and the only solution was to do a ‘hard’ power off and on. All would be ok for several hours when it would freeze again! Things got worse after I moved from Windows 8 to 10. I think I may have come up with the solution to my problem and maybe it might help other Acer users. One can use the Ethernet (hard wire) connection to the Router or WiFi. I am using WiFi all the time and never use the Ethernet connection. I opened Network Connections and DISABLED the Ethernet connection. I am now into the third day and leaving the computer on 24/7 and no problem! Good luck.
