My 1st gen iPhone SE had an issue about a week ago where whenever I tried to unlock my phone with touch id, it would take multiple tries for the phone to notice that my finger is on the home button. I hard reset it a couple times and then I got a little banner saying Unable to activate touch id on this iPhone. At this time the home button was working but after a few days my home button became very hit or miss and still is. It clicks when I press it but nothing happens and I have to press it at least like 5 times in a row to get a response. I’ve had to use the assistive touch home button which is a hassle to use, I’d really appreciate any help
It sounds like you have a bad home button or a bad connection. You can try cleaning the connections and see if that helps. But if you need a new home button you can purchase one from ifixit but touch Id will not work. The home button is paired to the motherboard and only apple can change the home button and keep touch Id.
