Chosen Solution

Hi there! The door opening button on my GE microwave model je1590sh02 would not get pressed, and the door would not open. What would be the best solution for this problem? Thank you!

Hi Roman, While I don’t have an answer specific to your particular microwave, in general the door mechanism is usually easily accessible once you take the main cover off. Look for screws on the back and sides; once those are out you should be able to slide the cover off toward the back. After that you should be able to see the door latch mechanism; it may take a little bit of wiggling and jiggling to figure out what to move to get it to open, but with a little common sense it’ll become apparent. Oh, of course you should unplug it first and stay away from exposed electrical parts; some of them are capacitors that can hold a big charge for hours. The wires going to the door switches will be reasonably safe with it unplugged though. Good luck; let us know what you find!

Hi @mororom Here’s a link that shows all the parts for your model that may help you to find out how to open it and also what’s wrong. Be safety aware when working in microwave ovens. The HV capacitor can store >5000V DC for months, even if the power has been disconnected for this length of time. This amount of voltage can seriously injure you. It needs to be discharged correctly, as soon as it can be accessed after removing the microwave cover and before commencing any further work in the oven.
