So I run a small repair shop, and I sold a phone too a customer I tested the phone before the sale, and everything worked perfect Now the customer came back with a weird problem. They updated the phone too IOS 14 and the mic stopped working, but only during calls I can record a video, use snapchat, record a memo and so on But it just won’t work during calls, I tried installing a new “Charger Dock” but still no luck during calls I am really at a loss here, because it seems like I owe the customer a new phone… I already tried turning “Noise reduction during g calls” off, but with no luck. I also tried factory reset both network and the entire phone… Best regards Jonas Mac-Shack Holbaek, Denmark
Jonas this is a widespread issue in iPhone 7,8 and SE 1st gen. many users have reported the same issue with the ios 14 upgrade. It is not an issue with the hardware itself. There is no fix for it as of now. As a workaround, you can attend calls via speaker then the mic works. So inform the customer it is an Apple problem. Apple has not acknowledged this issue officially yet. we should see a fix in the next update.
Can you revert it back to 13 or have you tried restoring it? I know there’s like 4 mics found in the 8 and 8 plus. Two in the charge port, one by the ear speaker, and the other by the rear camera. The one by the ear speaker is used for FaceTime if I’m not mistaken but I do know it’s used for noise reduction. I would try the front facing camera flex next as that is where that microphone is located.
