Hi all. I recently got a PowerBook 145 with startup sound chime, but black/grey screen (only the backlight worked). So I decided to recap the creen board (I used 9x 3.3uF-63V capacitors instead the 35V original ones) and the inverter board with a 47uF-16V and 33uF-16V (tantalium) caps. The problem is that, even with this cleaning with alcohol and recap, the display doesn’t work properly… now it turns whit and shows a series of vertical lines, but nothing else. Is the display definitely broken?
Without having a second PowerBook which you can use to check out the display on all you can do is check the voltages. My first Mac laptop was a 180c which I used for work, it was much lighter than my Compaq Portable III ;-} I had been using. And the screen was full color! The Amber screen my Compaq had was hard on the eyes!
