i have a macbook pro 15", bought mid 2010, with 2x 4gb ram. after testing, i realized that top ram slot has gone bad. can i use single 8gb ram instead of 4gb ram? My MacBook Pro detail is Intro. Sometimes a bad slot will take a lessor module. Try a 2 GB in the bad slot.

According to apples specification, the maximum amount of memory for this laptop is 8GB, but unfortunately they also state in the memory cars specifications that either 2GB of 4GB modules are supported. (scroll down a bit on this page: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201165…) So the official answer at least is no however in the past many users have found that macs would recognise and work fine with larger amounts of memory than stated by apple, so maybe? Bot probably not…
