Hello, I’m trying to fix my friend’s MacBook Pro mid-2012 unibody (A1278). The female connector for the battery indicator on the motherboard is missing as shown in the image below. The Macbook could run like normal with the power adapter plugged. However, it shuts down a couple seconds after disconnected from the power adapter. Is there any way I could possibly fix this without changing the whole logic board? Any possible soldering options?
Thanks
This looks like a slow burn where the plastic shell melted from a short in the connector! So replacing the melted connector is not the root issue its just the ramification of the event! This is going to need deeper diagnostics to figure out what is causing the short. But you’ll first need to clean off the melted plastic without damaging the logic board or its foil traces. If this is not possible then you likely will find replacing the logic board is easier and cheaper than getting the board fixed. 13” MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz i5 Logic Board, Apple P/N 661-658813” MacBook Pro 2.9 GHz i7 Logic Board, Apple P/N 661-6589 You will need to replace the 13” Macbook Pro Battery Indicator/Sleep board, Apple P/N 922-9523 as well.
