Hi, I found my old mac book pro from 2009, i tried to charge it but it just won’t turn on (The green led is on btw) Any idea? Thanks in advice! :) Update (11/10/2022) @danj @jmehnert is this what u guys are talking about? Macbook Pro 17" 2009 No Power Repair on Board 820-2390 Thanks you so much for answering me!

Doesn’t sound good ;-{ The Green MagSafe LED is a good sign the system is getting power and the battery appears to be charged. As you are not getting any response when you try starting the system. So is the keyboard or is it the logic board that is not responding? I would see if shorting across the power pads on the logic board gets a response this is bypassing the keyboards power switch. Here’s more on where they are on your system 2009 17” MacBook Pro

In addition to @danj’s answer, there’s a really good explanation that @arbaman posted here with that could give some explanation to the issue. To give you the spark notes of it, it’s an issue with the poly-tantalum capacitor. Typically these capacitors go bad over time and will cause a shortage in the board. You can get the device to turn on temporarily by warming up the board, assuming that the computer was in a cooler area, but an actual fix could potentially require a component-level repair if this ends up being the issue.
