I have a MacBook 13" Touch Bar (2017) which after a minor liquid spill (coffee) which does not turn on when the battery board is connected. This startet about 2 days after the liquid spill. When I disconnect the battery board, wait about 10 minutes and plug in a charger, the MacBook starts itself and everything words. Apple Diagnostics report no problems (except the missing battery) and everything is working fine (I let it run for over 24h without any problems). Sleep, restart, shutdown etc. all works as long as the charger is connected. When I disconnect the charger, I have to wait about 10 minutes before connecting the charger again, else the MacBook won’t turn on. This is all while the battery board is still not connected. If I reconnect the battery board cable while the MacBook is running in this state, the battery charges and everything works until I disconnect the charger (while the charger is connected, every works normal, Apple Diagnostics report no problems). The MacBook then keeps running on battery when the charger is disconnected, but as soon as is switched it off totally (not sleep) it does not switch on again. I then have to disconnect the battery board and wait 10 minutes, then it will automatically start again when connecting the charger. I checked the board for liquid damage. There were some very little areas which were a bit dirty, which I cleaned and then let dry. I’m looking for advice what to try next. Is it normal that one has to wait 10 minutes after disconnecting the charger before reconnecting to start the MacBook or does that point to some error on the logic board? Does it sound like the battery/board is damaged? The Battery is quite old (488 charges, service warning). Should I try to buy a new battery, or does everything I write sound like a faulty logic board? Since the device is a bit older, I do not want to spend that much money on it. if i pull this cable and wait for about 10 minutes, then plug in a charger, the macbook boots and everything is working fine (as long as is stay on the charger, as soon as i disconnect the charger and then switch the macbook off, it does not turn on again)
It could be either. Some pictures of the areas you cleaned up would be helpful. And a battery could certainly be the underlying cause. It is odd that it takes 10 minutes or so to be able to come back on though. This may seem a silly question, but when you disconnect the battery, you’re removing the cable, AND the large T5 screw? Just to be certain. If the battery was indicating Service, then it could well be the cause. Was it saying Service before the liquid incident?
Your problem needs a deeper investigation to be sure what needs service. You’ll need to find someone who can help you locally.
Hey all, I have a similar problem here with a MacBook Pro 13" 2016, 4Thunderbolt Ports + Touchbar. If I disconnect the battery, then it will turn on, if it is connected t won’t, + when I try to touch the metal housing of the MacBook while it’s charging it feels like the housing is not grounded. (not the case if the Battery is not connected) The thing is, I only opened it, to see if the battery is bloated a bit because it is indicating the Service-Warning. I would then have replaced the battery with a new one. It worked all day just until after I opened it, cleaned it, and closed it again. Now it’s behaving like the battery board is broken or something… Any help regarding this will be helpfull
