Left my Macbook on charge one night and the next morning unplugged it and it powered off straight away, I plugged it back in and noticed the charge percentage wasn’t moving. Tried the option key+press on the battery icon and it said ‘replace now’. I only got this laptop for Christmas 2018 (so I’ve had it for around a year and a half) so I don;t understand how the battery has gone already. I’ve attempted to do an SMC reset but the laptop doesn’t turn back on when I press the power button unless I unplug and re-plug it, and there’s no difference to the battery. I updated the system (Catalina 10.15.5) and the only difference is when I press on the battery icon it says ‘battery is not charging’. Is there anything I can do right now other than take it to an Apple store?
Hi! I don’t want to scare you, but yeah looks like your battery is dead. Not sure if you can test with another charger? At the Apple Store they can. You can try to fix it for yourself, but this will be not easy. Guide: MacBook Pro 13" Function Keys 2017 Battery Replacement So you can decide for yourself to fix it or let it be fixed. And yeah, I agree, this shouldn’t happen withing 2 years… But also depends on how you used it.. Perhaps someone else know if this is a common issue or that something else is broken which is causing it (I don’t have a lot of experience with this Macbook). But so far I can tell now, it looks like your battery is out of the game..
Hi, i’m facing a very similar problem, except that i’m using a 2016 13” mac book pro and started using in the latter part of 2017 only. The end of the USB C charging cable that i always plug to the side of the mac book has turned slightly yellow as well. And i’ve been getting this problem ftom somewhere in the 1st week of june as well. And resetting SMC didnt help.
Same problem for me. And I have seen many macbook pro users say they are facing the same issue. Some users even have the same problem after they purchased a new battery. I think that’s a software problem but Apple haven’t have any reponse yet.
I am having the same problem with 13” Mac Book Pro. I purchased a new power adapter and USB-C cable from apple ($125 together)… problem still persists. I turned off battery management … did not help. When I put my Mac into sleep cycle it will eventually charge… it usually takes 10 to 15 hours to charge this way but eventually it is recharged. Right now … I’m at 100%… I unplugged the power adapter… but it thinks that the power adapter is plugged in and charging. I think its a Catalina problem.
Hi, I’m struggling with the same situation. As far as I know, the ultimate solution would be the battery replacement, but frankly, I would like to avoid that. My battery has only 316 cycles and is 1181 days old, and still on 82.5% of design capacity. I’ve tried multiple things like SMC reset, SW updates, etc., but still cannot charge (with the original Apple USB-C charger).
Can you see any other option than battery replacement? Thanks a lot! Jiri
I have the same issue now (not charging with always 1% power) after updating the macOS to 10.15.6. I guess that the reason is the feature ‘battery health management’ that was introduced in 10.15.5.
I have the same problem. I can’t find the solution. Does anyone find the solution yet?
