Hello, I have just got a late 2008 macbook pro and it won’t turn on, it charges the battery fine but nothing happens when the power button is pressed. I have already tried a SMC reset. What else is there to try? I don’t think its the keyboard as when I do shift+ctrl+option and press the power button the light on the charger changes from orange to green and back again. I hope the logic board isn’t dead. Thanks :)

C7771 has failed on the logic board most likely and will need to be replaced; common on 2008-2009 15" and 2009 17" models. Grab a schematic and boardview for your board, and it will show the location of this capacitor. If it measures under 1.05V (usually around 0.3V if it’s bad), then it needs replacing.
